Sports Car Club of America - Dixie Region - Solo Autocross

Moultrie, GA. The Dixie Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will be hosting a Solo Autocross driving event to be held at Spence Field in Moultrie, GA on Sunday, November 8, 2009. The event will be held inside the gate located at end of N. McNaughton Blvd. within the Spence Field facility. Registration and vehicle technical inspection will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Drivers meeting and official timed runs begin around 10 a.m. The event will run until the last car finishes, typically mid to late afternoon. Driver entries are open to the public. Driver entrants pay a $30 registration for SCCA club members, $40 for non-SCCA club members, and $37 for non-SCCA member students. Must be a licensed driver, provide own car and pass a short safety vehicle technical inspection. Loaner helmets are available. The fees charged covers to cost of the site rental and national SCCA club sanctioning fees Dixie Region SCCA is a regional volunteer non-profit car club that serves north Florida and southwest Georgia. Solo is the SCCA brand name for autocross competition. Solo events are driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot or airport. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. It is like being in a movie chase scene, only you are holding onto the steering wheel instead of a box of popcorn! Just one car at a time on the course running against the clock. A low time requires a driver be smooth, precise, and quick. The skills learned in the parking lot at a Solo Autocross will greatly improve your car control and help make you a safer driver on the street. If you've always been interested in competing, but can't afford a dedicated racecar, SCCA Solo Autocross may be the sport for you, and we are coming to Moultrie. Cars are classed with other cars of similar performance, and classes are divided into different preparation levels (from stock to highly modified). You really can "run what you brung"!
